Biography

Javan St. Prix, AKA ‘Trim’ is a British MC from East London and former member of Roll Deep.
He is a cousin of the Roll Deep DJ Karnage, former Roll Deep MC Roachee, the footballer Leon Knight and the grime MC Lee Brasco. He has said that the name ‘Trim’ comes from his football team mates because he would turn up to games with messy hair.

In the early 2000’s, Trim was affiliated with Grime crew Bomb Squad, this was shortly after he left prison.

Trim quickly made a name for himself within the Grime music scene with his smart use of words and very unique flow.

Trim was also a member of Grime collective Roll Deep for at least 2 years but left the crew some time in late 2006. He appeared on Creeper Volume 1, Creeper Volume 2, In At The Deep End and Rules And Regulations and other Roll Deep releases such as Danny Weed and Target's Aim High series. While in Roll Deep he and Scratchy went well together on sets (they apparently went to school together) and they released the track Trim 'N Scratch together. In an interview[1] with GrimeDaily Trim claimed it was difficult working with people he didn't know so he left the crew, however he was with the crew for 2 years or more during which time they recorded many tracks, toured the country promoting In At The Deep End and they visited the USA.

While in Roll Deep he was also taken in by British musician Mike Skinner AKA ‘The Streets’ and was placed on a remix track to the original The Mitchell Brothers track ‘Routine Check’ along with Kano, Scratchy & JME. He also made the track "Gave Him An Inch" while working with Mike Skinner's (now defunct) label 'The Beats'.

Since leaving Roll Deep Trim has tried to distance himself from the musical route taken on Roll Deep's debut album In At The Deep End, on which he featured heavily, but at the time he was quoted as saying “I mean, this isn’t for the tugs dem. But when you’re with your bredrins you have fun so that’s what we’re doing like any other boys might. I don’t think anyone in Roll Deep expected to go in this direction but listen to it and don’t care about anything. That’s what we tried to do.” (from Chantelle Fiddy).

Feuds

Trim is also known in the Grime scene for his various feuds with other MC’s. He is seen as a formidable opponent due to his sharp wit and tendency to get very personal with his disrespectful lyrics. A very popular example of Trim diss records can be found on the Roll Deep mixtape Creeper Volume 2 with a track entitled ‘The Lowdown’ where he confronts MC’s such as Stormin, Major Ace, Sniper E, Cell 22 and more.

Trim is also known for his dislike to Roll Deep member Flow Dan, and regularly calls himself a ‘Flow-Dan’. Trim cited arguments with Flow Dan as his reason for leaving Roll Deep. On Frisco's track 'Ayia Napa Story' and in his later sends for Flow Dan he insinuates that Flow Dan did not back him when he became involved in a dispute with Marcus Nasty while in Ayia Napa with Roll Deep.

Trim began taking shots at Flow Dan in his lyrics by mocking Flow Dan's stutter and insinuating Flow Dan was a coward. Eventually he released a snippet of a track on his myspace called 'The Low Dan' (released on Soulfood Volume 3)in which he directly attacked Flow Dan. Flow Dan released a talking dub in reply calling for Trim to have more respect for what he and Roll Deep had done for Trim's career. Trim replied with his own talking dub in which (amongst other things) he criticized Flow Dan for not having released as much material as him despite being older (Trim exaggerated Flow Dan's age in the dub). Eventually the pair clashed on Rinse FM and Killa P joined in the beef on the side of his cousin Flow Dan.

However in 2009 Trim and Flow Dan have appeared on sets together on Karnage's show on Rinse FM and they bigged each other up. Killa P also bigged up Trim while on Rinse and told listeners to go and buy Trim's CD Soulfood Volume 4. However Trim would still take jabs at Flow Dan where ever possible. The split from Roll Deep appears to have left him very bit and his obsession with Flow Dan has overshadowed most of his Soulfood series.

While they were both in Roll Deep Flow Dan would often "big up" Trim and Roachee on sets however after he left Roll Deep Trim said that Roachee had issues with the crew and suggested that Roachee would send for some of them when he was released from jail. As yet Roachee has not done this.

More recently Trim as had beef with Wiley who is a member of Roll Deep. In late december Wiley made a War Dub called 'Now Hear Dis' which was sending for Ex-Roll Deep member Trim and Bloodline member Big H. Trim has replied to this track with a tune call 'Dat Wun'

Discography

Since being in the Grime scene, Trim has released five mixtapes independently so far, two of those mixtapes being a double CD pack, he stated that every mixtape with an even number shall contain two discs. He is planning for his sixth release and debut album.

When asked his mixtape series by The Guardians David Stelfox, he said...

"I treat them as training, I'm not trying to make the best record in the world. What I'm doing is pushing myself, being different and seeing where that takes me. Mixtapes are all about challenging myself and experimenting. There are lots of sides to me, musically and as a person. This is a way for me to get all of that out there and show people what I can do."
