The Milkyman's are 2 Garage/Grime MC'S from South London By the names of Nikki S and Nyke who have been ‘partners in rhyme’ since 2000. In this time their journey through the UK music scene has been well documented. Initially making their names on the Garage circuit through the infamous Delight FM, as well as warming up for & performing alongside So Solid in their prime, the ‘Milkymans’ were just beginning to show signs of a talented original double act.

Hey Nikkie

Their legendary ‘Power Hour’ on Sundays was the hypist pirate radio show in its day! Their first ‘hit’, the ladies’ anthem Hey Nikki came in 2002, that year they also featured on the front cover of RWD Magazine. The track was an instant smash with the ladies; as a result Nikki S & Nyke would perform live PA’s all across the UK, including Jersey & Isle of Wight. The Song’s longevity as a true Garage classic was confirmed thanks to EZ’s ‘PURE GARAGE PLATINUM’, not to mention being the No1 selling vocal Garage tune in Uptown Records. Over the next few years the Milkymans moved from the waning Delight 103 to the up & coming Freeze 92.7 FM. They also appeared on all of the top rave bills including, La Cosa Nostra, Garage Delight, Eskimo Dance, License to Rave. In 2002/3 they performed in Ayia Napa, Cyprus alongside Roll Deep & So Solid.

What happened next?

With all the ‘hype’ around the ‘2 white boys on a mission’, it wasn’t long before the boys made their legal radio debut. They featured as the first MC guests with EZ for his Friday night show on KISS, on Choice FM with Commander B, Radio 1xtra with Cameo. Later they would also appear as guests on the infamous Westwood Radio 1 show, as well as 1xtra again with the Heartless crew and featured on Ras Kwame’s Maida Vale Sessions. The 1st Nikki S & Nyke Video came in late 2004 with the South London Anthem ‘Southside’. The song was unique in that it was the first real effort south London had attempted to make in response to east domination of the newly named ‘Grime’ scene. The beat was produced by Milkymans’ close ally DJ Pele aka ALIAS, who at the time was 1 of the top producers in the scene. It was a massive hit on Channel U, reaching No1 in the ‘U chart’ & staying in the top 10 for 3 or more months. The Milkymans now thoroughbred performers were also busy in studio putting together their ‘Laurel & Hardy’ Mix CD, which was recorded at AIM studios with engineer/producer Danny C. Full of clever witted, gimmicky remixes this mix tape had something for everyone. Remixing tracks such as Britney Spears’ Toxic & Usher’s Confessions, as well as free styling over vintage hip-hop beats from Mobb Deep to Snoop to Notorious B.I.G. The Laurel & Hardy mix tape showed that the Milkymans were not just 1 trick pony, but very talented versatile lyrical artists. The key ingredient/signature of the CD was the ever-present humour & positive outlook through their lyrics.

What about the music video?

The long anticipated video for Hey Nikki followed in 2005, this again was a favourite with the youngsters, especially females. Again the video reached the top spot on Channel U’s chart, also getting some plays on MTV Base. Other videos include Bad-a-Bar & SKA project, the latter featuring several big Grime artists, including Narstie, Flirta D & Doctor to name a few. This tune was a big hit at many grime events, rewinds aplenty!! In 2006, leading up to the World Cup, the Milkymans teamed up with Danny C to make an unofficial England Anthem. Re-using the chorus from their very first track, ‘Better than the Rest’, they made a commercial garage/rock banger. The verses would consist of the England team’s player’s names, making this an original England Anthem. Being 1 of many ‘unofficial’ anthems didn’t deter the guys from their project, through gritty determination the track ended up being played first by Robin Banks on KISS 100, soon to be followed by Johnnie Vaughn on Capital FM, who played the tune as part of his World Cup fever show on Match days. Other DJ’s who supported the track included, Logon Sama, EZ, Masterstepz, Tim Westwood & Ras Kwame. The inevitable undoing of the track was England’s failings on the pitch.

Whats going on in 2008

Currently the Milkymans are working on their Album, which has an assorted mixture of styles & tunes. Their second mix tape, ‘Dellboy & Rodney’ is also in the closing stages. They have also recently shot a new video for their next release, ‘Things on my mind’. This’s an emotional track produced by the young talented Swindle, who has his own long awaited ‘140 mix tape’ coming soon.

Other Milkymans’ projects to watch out in 2008 include their cockney rhyming slang banger ‘Oi Oi Savaloy’ & also the highly anticipated SKA project 2, collaborating with more big UK artists, including Skinnyman, L.Man & Purple. It is only a matter of time before the Milkymans show the UK & the rest of the world their full potential!!!
