Dizzee RascalFrom Grime Wikipedia(Redirected from Dizzee)
BiographyProbably the first introduction of grime to the mainstream music scene, Dizzee Rascal is the most successful grime artist to date. His first release "Boy In Da Corner" sold over 250,000, as did his second release "Showtime". Both releases were made on the XL Recordings label. Dizzee is a former member of Roll Deep, which he left after a well-publicised fallout with Wiley. Despite being best known for his emceeing, he is also a recognised producer, and virtually produced the whole of his first album. Other grime beats that Dizzee is known for include 'Wheel', 'Hoe', 'Strings Hoe', 'Go' and 'Streetfighter'. He also co-owns a record label, Dirtee Stank, with his manager and producer Cage. He has signed the Newham Generals as well as Jammer's debut album, Top Producer and another MC called Smurfie Syco. Previously he had a duo called Klass A signed or affiliated with Dirtee Stank. His single 'Dance Wiv Me' was #1 in the UK Music Chart for four weeks, despite being released independently on Dirtee Stank. His following two independently released singles Bonkers and Holiday also shot to the number 1 spot and his independently released album Tongue N Cheek is expected to do very well due to it's pop music style.
The Roll Deep EraDizzee would go on pirate radio on many small North London stations until he came to Wiley's attention (via Target) who then brought him into Roll Deep the most successful Grime crew of all time. From then on he became a rising star on the underground scene forming a great double act with Wiley. Their performance at Sidewinder is ranked by many as one of the best moments in Grime history. Wiley introduced Dizzee to his manager Cage who was already trying to sign Wiley to XL Recordings. Both were then signed but jealousy, and a near fatal stabbing in Ayia Napa ended their friendship and Dizzee's membership of Roll Deep. Below are a few of Dizzee's collaborations before he found overground success.
