Biography

Marsta, hailing from East London, is a UK Grime Beat Maker, Co owner of Lyrics 4 Lyrics Clothing and founder of DMfilmz

His DJ Career started back in August 2001 on a Pirate Station called Amy FM where he held a Sunday 10-12am slot playing old skool Garage and 2step for a few months. However, towards the end of '01 and beginning of '02 saw a change in the UK underground scene with the emerging of a more Darker and MC driven sound, known today as Grime. This new sound appealed to Marsta and saw a shift in direction musically for him. In summer 2002 he teamed up with his cousins General L.O.K and Ivan-O to form a crew named Total Package. Marsta remained on the decks while L.O.K and Ivan-O blessed the Mic with their lyrical ability.

With the forming of the new team also came a change in Stations. Total Package joined what was then the ‘biggest station on the roads’ Heat 96.6 FM where they held various slot times throughout there 10 month period on the station. During this time Marsta began experimenting with a music program called Fruity Loops and began making a few beats towards the end of the year. Fruity Loops allowed Marsta to develop his own unique production style which many have described as dark and minimal.

At the start of 2003 other DJs started to take notice of Marsta’s beats and one of his beats ‘Gridlock’ got the attention of DJ Slimzee. Gridlock was then featured on the 2003 Major Compilation Album Street Beats by Ministry Of Sound. Through the rest of the year Marsta began to release his material on vinyl through Total Package Recordings and other Independent Labels.

Total Package also carried on there radio show and in the proceeding 2 years they moved on to Mystic 98.1 FM then finally on to there last station Raw Blaze 90.00 in 2005.

After Raw Blaze ceased transmitting in 2005, Marsta and the rest of the crew took time out of music.

Fast Forward to 2007 after a 2-year Hiatus from the Grime scene, Marsta returns and aims to be bigger and better.
